Well, it’s that time of year again. Time for mounds of snow and crowds galore. Pine tree scents and eggnog by the glass. Stockings hung on walls and fireplaces. Family gathered, around tables eating ham, and television sets watching “It’s a Wonderful Life.”I always feel like the holidays are my favorite time to get creative. Every year I offer up mugs and plates full of homemade goodies: brownies, cookies and peppermint bark galore! I wanted to bring this same creativity into my space so I scoured the internet for my favorite DIY Christmas decoration projects.

On the Country Living website they have 24 DIY Christmas decorations and my favorite was this: They took Dollar Store salt shakers, lined the bottom with iodized salt and added little tree and reindeer ornaments. These would be unique and just plain fun center pieces for your dinner table.

HGTV has an article with 65 of their favorite DIY Christmas projects. My favorite of theirs was a set of sparkling candle holders made out of mason jars.

They applied glitter glue to the inside of the jar to create a sparkling wonderland for a cheap price. The candles look expensive but they are actually easily and frugally made.

On the Swell Designer website she took crayons and melted them using a hair dryer. She dropped the crayons into clear glass ornaments to make fun patters.

I thought this was a great idea because it’s very personal and inexpensive. You can choose your favorite colors and go to town. They look store bought.

Similarly, you can also stuff your ornaments with old sheet music or pages from books.

Real Simple has a great idea for creating your own advent calendar.

You can take jars or cans and wrap them in tissue paper. You can number them 1-25 and stuff them with whatever you want: chocolates, toys or treats! It’s almost like receiving stocking stuffers every day for 25 days!
