SOWA- South Boston’s hidden treasure!

On Sunday afternoon, I took the Red Line from Quincy Center to Broadway and walked about half a mile to the SOWA Open Market in South Boston. This market is held every Sunday, May thru October, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 460 Harrison Avenue in South Boston. There is a Farmer’s Market with fresh produce, ice cream, doughnuts, hard cider samples (for the adults!), and a spicy cider endorsed by Willie Nelson!

My personal favorite booth is the gourmet combinations at Union Square donuts (Maple Bacon… mmm…), but apparently they were everyone else’s favorite too, because they were sold out.

SOWA is the perfect place to spend an hour or a day. There was a live band playing ska music and a ton people hanging out eating ice cream with their dogs.

There are another set of tents with various crafts, jewelry, paintings, books, and furniture.I loved the idea of these bean bag chairs for kid’s rooms, basements, and game rooms! Look how comfy he looks!

And this booth sold an assortment of gorgeous necklaces and bracelets, made from recycled glass, in assorted colors and styles. They were affordable too, with necklaces selling for only $10.

If you enter the building for the Vintage Market, you can go downstairs and find a large flea market with a bunch of awesome options. You never know what treasures you’re going to find down there.

These Lego chairs were one of a kind, and I thought they could be great in a children’s area.

This lime green dresser reminded me of more glamorous times, a la Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffanys.

This small white table with a gold shelf, or this vintage headboard, would make a lovely addition to any bedroom.

I wasn’t kidding when I said you never know what you’ll find here: Records, purses, vintage sunglasses, a large ceramic cat. It’s like digging for gold!

For those of us who love food (who doesn’t?), they also have a large assortment of food trucks with a seating area. I had a vegetable wrap with goat cheese from one of the trucks, and it was to die for!

If you’re looking to redecorate your home, or if you’re just plain bored on a Sunday, I recommend checking out the open market at SOWA. You really can’t find a better excuse to walk around outside on a beautiful day, and you never know what kind of great stuff you’ll come across. Feel free to comment with your SOWA stories and finds! We’d love to hear them!
